Go 75293 Resistance I-TS Transport And Leave The Driving To Us!

75293 Resistance I-TS Transport - lifestyle

Looking like a cross between a CR-90 corvette and a U-wing fighter, this addition to the Star Wars theme is a brave choice given that most fans aren’t likely to know what this ship is, nor how it fits into the wider Star Wars universe.

For those that aren’t aware of the Galaxy’s Edge zone at the Magic Kingdom park in Disneyland Anaheim and Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Orlando, this Star Wars-themed area depicts Black Spire Outpost, a trading settlement on the remote frontier planet of Batuu. Forming part of the Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance attraction, visitors embark on Intersystem Transport Ship (or IT-S) for one segment of the ride.

But why was it included with the Summer Wave, and how does it tie in to the wider LEGO Star Wars?

For those who know exactly where the Intersystem Transport Ship fits into the greater scheme of things, this is where you can start paying attention again.

The eight sets released as part of the LEGO Star Wars Summer Wave assortment on August 1st included a variety of models from the Prequel, Original, and Sequel trilogies – all of which were clearly linked to the upcoming The Skywalker Saga video game. The association of these vehicles and one playset to the game was clear – they’d be playable elements. But the link with 75293 Resistance I-TS Transport was a little less so.

Unless you consider the likelihood that Black Spire Rock is going to feature heavily in the game. Having the Batuu outpost as a core area – possibly as a hub – would justify the investment LEGO has put into this set. If this scenario is unlikely it’s safe to assume that they didn’t learn from the low interest their sets from The Freemaker Adventures received.

The access doors, situated either side of the main cabin, are particularly well-executed, as it the use of a gear piece as cooling radiator fins in the sub-engines – but best of all are the angled plates behind the cockpit. They really capture the style of the original Galaxy’s Edge vehicle.

Given that 75293 Resistance I-TS Transport is a bus (of sorts) it’s a shame that the main compartment isn’t a little bit bigger and fitted out with a couple of rows of seats. And, even though the black dome at the back is part of the Rise of the Resistance ride’s carriage, it feels like it’s been tacked on to fill a gap.

Four minifigures are included with this set: Lieutenant Bek (a Mon Cal character from the Galaxy’s Edge ride who is a Resistance communications officer based on Batuu), Vi Moradi (a Resistance spy who first appeared in the Phasma novel, released in 2017), an undesignated black and red astromech and a power droid – because everyone loves a gonk!

One very small word sums up this set: fun. From start to finish the build is uncomplicated, flows smoothly and the blue bricks really add a splash of necessary color to the LEGO Star Wars galaxy. This kind of set – one that comes with no preconceptions of how it should be played with – is all too often missing from the theme and those of you who remember 497 Galaxy Explorer will instantly understand the play value of this spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP!

You can pick this set up at Walmart, LEGO.com, Target and Amazon.com for $99.99, now. This is exactly the kind of set that will have a shorter production run than your run-of-the-mill X-wing or TIE Fighter, so expect this set to retire ahead of the rest of the Summer Wave sets.
