Back In Black: Knights of Ren Minifigure Breakdown

Making their debut appearance in The Force Awakens, this band of mysterious warriors were Force-sensitive humans and initially followed a mysterious warrior known only as “Ren.”

Originally formed centuries before the Galactic Empire, they were a masked order of warriors from the Unknown Region who followed neither the Jedi nor Sith. By the time of the Sequel Trilogy, their leader was Kylo Ren, whom they served as bodyguards, and they were firmly aligned with the First Order and Sith Eternal.

While there were eight members in total, including Kylo Ren and Albrekh, their Sith alchemist, the Knights numbered six: Ap’lek, Cardo, Kuruk, Trudgen, Ushar, and Vicrul.

Ap’lek (sw1063) and Ushar (sw1064) were the first to be created in LEGO form in 2019 and were released in 75256 Kylo Ren’s Shuttle as part of the Triple Force Friday product push in September, just ahead of the release of The Rise of Skywalker.

Ap’lek featured an all-new molded hood that was the first to have an open front and served as an upgrade to the previous hood which had also been created for the Star Wars theme in 1999. His torso, legs, and head print are all unique, and he comes equipped with his modified Mandalorian executioner’s ax.

Ushar required a specially molded helmet that features anti-ox filters and breathing tubes. The minifigure comes with uniquely printed legs and a torso with thermal detonator printing. The minifigure has a plain black head. He comes equipped with a kinetite charged war club which is represented in LEGO form as three studs stacked on top of each other and attached to a bar inserted into a lightsaber hilt.

The third Knights of Ren minifigure, released as part of the Winter Wave in January 2020, was Trudgen (sw1087) who came with 75272 Sith TIE Fighter.

Besides Ap’lek, he is the only other Knight of Ren to come with a specially printed head. Like the others, he received torso and leg printing that is unique to him. His headgear, which was actually salvaged from a Death Trooper that he killed in battle, was not unique in design but rather was a re-cast of the headgear for Rebolt from Solo this time in black. His weapon of choice – the vibrocleaver – was reused from The Lord of the Rings’ Uruk-hai.

Surprisingly included in 75273 Poe Dameron’s X-wing Fighter was the next Knight minifigure – Vicrul (sw1089).

His helmet is impressively textured and combines printing with molding to capture the look of this menacing warrior. The minifigure comes with a plain black head underneath. His phrik scythe is represented in LEGO form by a barb/claw stuck into a red lightsaber hilt.

With the release of the Night Buzzard – the 75284 Knights of Ren Transport Ship – as part of the Summer Wave in August 2020, the final two Knights joined the lineup.

Kuruk (sw1098) received a uniquely molded helmet with features reminiscent of a Scout Trooper and came with a plain black head. Cardo’s (sw1099) helmet – which has the simplest design of all the Knights of Ren – has the feel of a classic executioner’s headdress. Like the others, both of these minifigures come with unique torso and leg printing. Setting themselves apart, Kuruk and Cardo are the only two who do not wield bladed weaponry. To represent Kuruk’s custom multi-barreled rifle, a pair of binoculars are attached to the two-barrel pistol. Cardo’s heavy arm cannon is comprised of multiple regular LEGO elements to create the look.
