The Skywalker Saga: A Buyer’s Guide

The saga that took 42 years to tell – and only took an extra year to code – is almost upon us, and The Holo-Brick Archives has put together a one-stop guide on the best bundles and deals your money can buy.

It’s been a long road to get here and with at least six months still to wait for the game’s release date, the journey isn’t over yet – but at least you can get your pre-orders in now and secure yourself a copy of the game.

Before diving in, let’s take a moment to recap what we know about LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, a game that was accidentally outed by the voice of R0-GR during Star Wars Celebration Chicago 2019, right before we got to enjoy the official annouce trailer that dropped at the E3 convention in June. As exciting as that was, those that got to attend the Warner Bros. Games booth at the show witnessed a life-size Han Solo in carbonite minifigure – which, at the time, we didn’t realise would foreshadow an element of the title’s marketing campaign.

With the official press release, also shared during E3, came a few carefully selected in-game shots and a vague outline of what we could expect – but oddly, no release date. All went quiet for six months until Warner Bros. Games released a sizzle real that gave us our first look at the smooth animation and started a slow drip feed of carefully timed information.

While news was slow to trickle out from official sources, the internet did its own amateur sleuthing and a cavalcade of rumors and speculation suggested that fans would be able to hit the play button on their controllers in May, and then April, or November – but definitely by the end of 2020!

Expectations were raised when LEGO sent out images of the upcoming 75292 The Razor Crest – replete with graphics that pointed to The Skywalker Saga downloadable code – that suggested the game would come out in September or October. We later learned that this wouldn’t come to pass, but not before StarWars.com got to reveal the key art and some very important details about the game.

This announcement was followed up by a weekly YouTube recap by This Week In Star Wars who declared that the shelf date was October 20th – a statement that was quickly redacted and the video edited to remove the revealing sound bite.

The next stage in the marketing campaign came in a week later, with the reveal that a steelbook version featuring Han Solo locked in Carbonite would be exclusive to Best Buy in North America – an odd choice, considering the title of the game, but one that was well received by fans judging by how quickly Best Buy cleared their initial stock.

It was a long wait between updates when, in August, we were hit by three major reveals – the game had confirmed a (but vague) Spring 2021 release date, a gameplay trailer was released and the Deluxe Edition would have a special slipcase, come with a downloadable character pack and have an exclusive Luke Skywalker with Blue Milk minifigure!

The latest piece of news to come out of Warner Bros. Games (unofficially, however) was a sneak peak at the game’s load screen, giving potential players their first look at the actual game.
