With the LEGO Ambassador Network (LAN), the official support program for recognized media and fan groups, recently changing their attitude towards rumors – so long as it isn’t leaked by an official source – there’s a whole slew of unconfirmed sets coming to light, as those sites who had to follow the LAN guidelines (and those aspiring to join) are now able to report freely.
The first – an Imperial Star Destroyer – to see daylight has been reported by exabrickslegogo, a new pop-up Instagram/YouTube channel, as an upcoming gift with purchase (GWP). Typically, LEGO releases these for high-profile occasions like May The 4th Be With You and the release of a prominent model, such as an Ultimate Collector Series or high profile character’s set.
With the May 4th gift with purchase heavily rumored to be a Tatooine model, similar to the three micro build battle scenes that came out in 2019/2020, the likelihood that this set will come out in the second or third quarter of 2021 is high.
According to an earlier rumor list, the Summer wave will lean heavily on The Mandalorian series for source material and since there’s a strong chance that Thrawn will appear in the upcoming third series of the acclaimed TV show, we’re putting money on the included Imperial officer having blue skin and red eyes.
Additionally, exabrickslegogo has provided a very specific part count of 369 pieces. The minifigure will account for five or six of these, leaving a solid 365 parts to make the ship itself. With last year’s return of the midi-scale subtheme, it’s likely that the gift with purchase – if it proves true – will fit within this scale, much like the Nebulon-B Frigate (77904) exclusive that came out in 2020.
Could this set herald the return of Grand Admiral Mitth’raw’nuruodo and the Chimaera, a pivotal Imperial character and vessel that featured heavily in the Rebels series and the LEGO Star Wars collection inspired by the popular TV show that ran from 2014 to 2018 and hasn’t been seen in Imperial space since he and Ezra Bridger (also believed to be returning in the third season of The Mandalorian) were cast into hyperspace during Family Reunion – and Farewell, the Rebels series double-episode finale?
Alternatively the rumor of a new UCS Death Star – which would likely be released in September or October – would provide a great opportunity to tie a classic Imperial Star Destroyer promotion with the exclusive direct-to-consumer set that is expected to be a revisited form of 10143 Death Star II if the whispers are true, making a midi-scale Super Star Destroyer a real possibility.
What do you think of this rumor? Whether true or not, would you like to see Thrawn and the Chimaera captured in LEGO, or would a scaled-down version of Vader’s flagship – The Executor – be more to your liking? Share your hopes and thoughts below in our comments.
