It’s (Video) Game Time! Minifigure Recap IV – Darth Vader

As the release date for LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga inevitably grows closer, the hype surrounding the game and all of its content grows as well. To distract ourselves from the prolonged waiting, let’s see how in-game characters have changed over time. We recently covered the buildable Darth Vader helmet and to keep this Sith Lord in our focus, let’s look back at his video game appearances.

Darth Vader

  • Weapon: Red Lightsaber
  • Accessory: None
  • Abilities: Dark Force, Force Choke, Imperial Access, Return Blaster Shots, Lightsaber Toss, Lightsaber Cut, Toxin Immunity
  • Playable: Yes
  • Unlocks: Legacy of Terror Minikit (TCW)

Surprisingly for the number of LEGO Darth Vader minifigures that exist in physical form, there are very few that have appeared in the video games. Perhaps this is due to how many variants differ by only the head under the helmet. Through LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game, The Original Trilogy, The Complete Saga, and The Clone Wars the same version of Darth Vader was used. Thanks to his death scene we know that this version is the same as sw0004a which featured dark bluish gray torso printing and a light bluish gray head.

LEGO Star Wars: The Clone Wars featured one other Darth Vader minifigure. This one was the same as sw0180 that was found in 7672 Rogue Shadow and 852715 magnet pack alongside a Snowtrooper and Shadow Trooper. This version was unlocked by collecting all ten minikits for the Ambush level.

Just like the other characters that we have covered in this series, Darth Vader got the full upgrade for LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens. This version was most similar to sw0636b which was included in 75159 Death Star, 75222 Betrayal at Cloud City, and 75251 Darth Vader’s Castle.

There is no doubt that we will get another appearance of Darth Vader in the next installment especially because he is front and center on the cover. Do you think we will see other versions pop into the game such as the updated battle damaged version?

Which of the expected 300 playable characters in the LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga are you most excited for?
