The wait for the release of the new LEGO Star Wars video game – The Skywalker Saga – has been long and frustrating; pushed back twice, scant information coming out of the development house, silent lips from the IP stakeholders and no appearances at video game trade conventions, fans have begun to think that this uber-extension of the LEGO Star Wars video game series would go the way of the second part of TT Games’ adaptation of The Hobbit.
Things might be set to change with a recent update of the LEGO Star Wars account page on Twitter, which Brick Fanatics spotted a few days ago, that saw the addition of “Coming Soon” to the page’s header.
With a no-show at the GamesRadar Future Games Show on March 25th and nothing to tie-in with the excitement that May The 4th Be With You enjoys, this is the first change in the title’s status since Tt Games shared word that they were pushing the release date back beyond the Spring window they had announced at the end of August 2020, which was originally meant to be an October release (which was quickly recanted).
Whether by coincidence or forward planning, LEGO recently updated their Twitter account earlier today with a teaser that something new is coming to The Upside Down.
Fans of the LEGO video games will recognize the red 2×2 bricks, which have formed an integral part of the reward system since LEGO Star Wars Video Game, which suggests that this could be a new title in the works. Certainly, the 3D rendered environment is suggestive of the new Tt Games engine, and there has been a rumor of a new collaborative LEGO/Tt Games game – with an unknown IP stakeholder – circulating for a few months now.
Could the sneaky reveal of a possible LEGO Stranger Things game be the impetus that Tt Games needs to get The Skywalker Saga on shelves, or could this be a drain on their resources? Share your thoughts below.
