75311 Imperial Armored Marauder: Packed With A Plenitude Of Pew-Pews

Not to be confused with the more common K79-S80 Imperial Troop Transport, which – as every fan knows – is the more lightly armored troop transport that LEGO produced as 75078 Imperial Troop Transport in 2015, the Trexler 906 Armored Marauder has thicker armor, multiple laser turrets, space for three crew members plus a compartment for personnel.

Produced late in the reign of the Galactic Empire, it had limited distribution and was a rare sight, making it a valuable commodity on the black market. Making its debut appearance in the second season of The Mandalorian live-action television series, it was utilized as a getaway vehicle after Din Djarin, Magistrate Greef Karga, Cara Dune and their un-named Mythrol accomplice raided Moff Gideon’s research facility on Nevarro.

While its design fits into the Star Wars legendarium, the Imperial Armored Marauder is a vehicle that has yet to find a proper place in the hearts and minds of Star Wars fans – making it an odd choice for LEGO to adapt into a set.

Consisting of four bags of elements, 75311 Imperial Armored Marauder takes form pretty quickly, with the first bag seeing the main body completed, followed by the upper armor and then the cockpit. The fourth and final bag adds the upper plating, roof hatch, and rear cannon – and within an hour or so, this heavy troop transport is skimming across the carpet on its boat stud repulsorlifts.

It won’t come as a surprise that the two new minifigures – Greef Karga in the magistrate’s new clothes and the artillery stormtrooper (dubbed the mortar trooper by the LEGO Star Wars community when leaked images first started to appear) – are one of the big draws for this set. Completing the Imperial cohort are two regular stormtroopers, who come armed with standard blaster pieces.

While it might not be the most obvious choice for a new set, 75311 Imperial Armored Marauder, it turns out, was pretty good one. It keeps to scale, is pretty accurate in copying the design of the one seen in The Mandalorian and its snug size means its part count of 478 elements is low. On top of this, it has stacks of play features like hidden compartments, swiveling turrets and stud shooters, and comes with four minifigures – two of which are new-for-August-2021 – the MSRP of $39.99 isn’t out of line with expectations.

Available from all good retailers – like LEGO.com, Target, Walmart, Amazon.com, BigW, Kmart, Argos and Entertainment Earth (pre-order) – 75311 Imperial Armored Marauder can be purchased now.
