Brick-Built Rancor Rumored For 2022

The rumor train is heavy with speculation with word circulating that the predicted 75326 Boba Fett’s Palace set will include a Rancor monster, but with a twist.

Because, unlike the original that came with 75005 Rancor Pit in 2013, it will be brick-built instead of molded. At least according to greekbricks on Instagram.

The original measured 3″ (10cm) tall and was made up of 10 specially molded parts and was particularly expensive to produce. Since the retirement of 75005 Rancor Pit in 2015, this carnivorous native of Dathomir has never been reproduced, making it one of the most under-utilized LEGO molds.

Fans are conjecturing that the original mold may not be compatible with the blend of plastics and dyes used to produce new reddish-brown, which LEGO changed in December 2018 as a result of years of element failures. A similar change was made to dark red in 2019 and a number of small pieces were found to crack or split.

It may be that LEGO is avoiding using the old Rancor molds as a result of the potential for parts to deteriorate, and is looking to replicate the creature that lives below Boba’s palace using regular pieces to avoid the cost of retooling the multi-part mold used in the 2013 set.
