How To Build Your Snowtrooper Army And Fill Up An AT-AT

The long-awaited Ultimate Collector Series AT-AT is here, and as many collectors all over the world begin purchasing and building the model it’s time to start planning what to do with it. Some may build and then disassemble due to space constraints while others have changed their shelving to hold the behemoth. Others still are thinking of other display possibilities, and that’s where we come in.

LEGO boasts that the “main body has space for 40 LEGO minifigures.” This is significantly more capacity than any other model has provided. However, only five Snowtroopers are included with the model which begs the question what’s the best way to get the other thirty-five needed to fill the hull?

The first decision to make is whether you want to have a mix of troopers or stick with a single type. If you are going for a mix then do you want to include the original style of trooper with the molded helmet and backpack combination, or do you maintain the ranks with only newer style Snowtroopers? To help you choose, we’ve included all the Snowtrooper variants that have been officially released in the tables below.

With the older style Snowtroopers, there is some variety but not much. All have the same helmet and legs which leaves the difference to the torso or the head underneath. Since troopers typically keep their helmet on, there is little use for different heads. Therefore most would probably opt for sw0115 which is both the most numerous as well as the cheapest option with the current used price set at $2.69/£1.96/€2.31.

If instead you are looking to keep all of your Snowtroopers mostly uniform, then the newer style is the way to go. The earliest of this style still featured plain legs and a different torso print, so these may not be for you. That leaves the remaining three variants. Of these sw1009 is the easiest version to acquire since it was featured in more than one set and those sets are much cheaper than the 75288 AT-AT. This version can be picked up in used condition for $5.60/£4.09/€4.82.

Filling up your AT-AT is not going to be a cheap task regardless of how you choose to approach it. However, perhaps the best option is one that has not yet been released. One possibility is to wait for the upcoming 75320 Hoth Battle Pack which will contain three more Snowtroopers and releases in January. The second possibility is the beautifully timed January issue of the LEGO Star Wars magazine which will also include a Snowtrooper minifigure.
