Tatooine is a hot topic at LEGO, with a number of sets being added to the new The Book of Boba Fett collection this year, but – perhaps not surprisingly – LEGO is still happy to go old school, if the rumours of an Ultimate Collector Series Landspeeder are true.
UPDATE: This rumor has been revealed to be fake news by the originator of the story.
Whispers of a large-scale version of Luke Skywalker’s original form of homeworld transportation have been circulating since the end of last year when word that it would be the big-ticket May The 4th Be With You set started spreading.
Seemingly proof has just surfaced with a post on Instagram by legohio (the same source who posted images of an alleged Force ghost element) showed a new windshield piece that is eerily similar to the one on Luke’s own X-34.
The new Methyl methacrylate-acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene element (MABS) – which hasn’t yet been validated as one made by LEGO – is 12 studs (3.78 inches/9.6 cm) wide and suggests that the overall length of the model will be around 12 inches/30 cm.
Adding to the excitement is the rumor that the accompanying bonus minifigures – another bit of hearsay divulged by legohio – will include Luke Skywalker in his poncho (sw1086) and an all-new shiney C-3PO that uses the same drum-lacquer technique that makes 76191 Infinity Gauntlet pop, pop, POP!
If this last kernel of gossip is true then minifigure collectors are going to be faced with a tough decision.
I was hoping for a model about 50% bigger than that. I wonder how they’ll curve the front end.
Lacking an accurate measurement for the vehicle’s width (not including the engines on the side) I worked out a rough length:width ratio and based on the windscreen element being around 10 cm wide, the number that came up was 30 cm. I hope I’m wrong.
Well, it turns out that the windshield element was a hoax anyway, so it’s anyone’s guess if this set is real now.
