Saturday, being the busiest day of the four-day Star Wars Celebration Anaheim 2022 event, saw record numbers through the door – with many making a beeline to the LEGO booth to see the new sets that had been revealed the day before and to pick up 40547 Obi-Wan Kenobi & Darth Vader convention packaging variation before they ran out.
Those not making a beeline for the pop-up LEGO store found themselves in the hyperspace tunnel where the two newly revealed sets – 75335 BD-1 and 75338 Ambush on Ferrix – had been added to the display that included 75333 Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Jedi Starfighter and 75336 Inquisitor Transport Scythe; all four of which can be pre-ordered now and are due out on August 1st, 2022.
Meanwhile on the presentation stage, which continued to draw crowds, a speedbuild hosted by James Burns (Jedi News) and his erstwhile competitor was both entertaining and enlightening as they raced to build a battle droid in 10 minutes, followed by a podracer.
Fans and collectors planning to queue for the illusive BrickHeadz set, with its special slip sleeve, found that by late morning the limited number of stocks set aside for Saturday had already run out. Whether the allocation for Saturday was higher than the other days is unknown, but it’s clear from the number of listings on eBay that some attendees picked up sets to profit.
A quick stock-take on the sets being offered at the pop-up store showed that the ten pallets of sets that they had brought were severely depleted, and of the several dozen lines that had arrived on Wednesday only three or four were left. With some retail staff released to go home early, it’ll be interesting to see what’s available on the final day of the convention.
