Summer Of LEGO Star Wars Panel: What We Learned

Hosted by the energetic Yvette Nicole “That’s Nice” Brown, a self-confessed Star Wars nerd and celebrity LEGO fan who builds sets in her trailer in between takes, the Summer of LEGO Star Wars panel enjoyed a full audience of keen convention-goers.

Held on the Galaxy Stage on the second day of Star Wars Celebration, the stage was adorned with a mash up of Californian dreamin’ and Hawaiian tiki chic that gave off the distinct vibe that an endless summer of LEGO Star Wars was at hand.

Featuring a number of guests who work in the theme’s shadow – Douglas Reilly (vice president, Lucasfilm Games), Jill Wilfert (vice president, entertainment partners and content, the LEGO Group), Jens Kronvold Frederiksen (design director, LEGO Star Wars, the LEGO Group), Chris Gollaher (director, product design, Lucasfilm), Josh Rimes (vice president, animation development and production, Lucasfilm), Jason Cosler (senior manager and producer, content development, the LEGO Group), David Shayne (writer and filmmaker), and Leland Chee (senior creative executive, franchise story and content, Lucasfilm) – all had their input into what’s gone on this year, and a few things that are coming up!

Omega Minifigure Revealed

Whether by accident or on purpose – or maybe it was an Easter egg that no-one was expected to notice – a short animation celebrating the 45th birthday of Star Wars showed a digital minifigure of Omega, the female clone adopted by Clone Force 99 (aka The Bad Batch), who is expected to be included in the upcoming 75323 The Justifier this summer.

Build Your Own BD-1 Droid

Cal Kestis’s mechanical sidekick – BD-1 – will be this year’s addition to the Sculptures subtheme, and will be available from August 1st (but you can pre-order it – priced US$99.99 / CA$129.99 / UK£89.99 / DE€99.99 / AU$159.99 – now on LEGO.com) at general retail.

First Set From Andor Series

Timed for the release of the first Andor series trailer, which was revealed earlier in the day, this set features a small shuttle vehicle, a new style of speed bike and three minfigures – including Cassian Andor himself. This set will be available at general retail from August 1st and can be pre-ordered (priced at US$69.99CA$89.99UK£69.99DE€79.99AU$119.99) now.

LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar Teased

The third treat in the Summer of LEGO Star Wars panel came as a minifigure, pulled from design team lead Jens Kronvold Frederiksen’s pocket. He wasn’t able to share anything more than the image of the summery Darth Vader minifigure with a Mustafar sand castle.

New LEGO Star Wars Special Announced

With a neat segue, the animation section of the panel revealed that a new special – Summer Vacation – would be coming to Disney+ on August 5th. Taking care not to give too much away, Josh Rimes (Vice President of Lucasfilm Animation) did share that – like most family vacations – Poe, Chewbacca, Finn and Rey’s plans go awry in their search for a relaxing break after defeating the resurrected Emperor following the events of The Rise of Skywalker.
