Like the LEGO Star Wars theme in general, our Mini Steps features so far have relied heavily upon the Original Trilogy. Although we have included a few Prequel Trilogy characters, no character from the Sequel Trilogy has been covered until now.
Finn, or FN-2187 as he is initially called, is a defected First Order Stormtrooper. His prominence as one of the main protagonists of the final three films of the Skywalker Saga has allowed him to feature in a variety of LEGO Sets leading to six minifigure variants.
The first iteration was released in 2015 included with 75105 Millennium Falcon. He came with Poe Dameron’s jacket and plain black pants. His dual-sided head featured two unique prints. He also came with a brand new hair element. This figure would go on to be included in 75139 Battle on Takodana, 75178 Jakku Quadjumper, 75192 Millennium Falcon, and the April 2018 issue of the LEGO Star Wars magazine.
The following year Finn was found in his First Order Stormtrooper uniform as part of the 30605 polybag. Appropriately labeled as FN-2187, he came with unique torso and leg prints with dirt stains over the usual Stormtrooper print. The head and hair were the same as the previous version. This version was exclusive to the polybag which was only included with the deluxe edition of the LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens video game.
Coming in 2017 exclusive to 75176 Resistance Transport Pod was the next version of Finn. This time he received a unique dual-sided head with two new expressions, updated torso printing to show off a new undershirt and some extra detailing, and new leg printing with a belt and holster pattern. His legs were also changed to pearl dark gray.
We’ve seen Finn in updated casual attire, so now it’s time to go back to uniform. This time, however, that uniform is a stolen First Order Officer disguise. Included in the hotly debated – at the time – 75201 First Order AT-ST was this version of Finn dressed in all pearl dark gray. The cap, torso, and legs were identical to the officer found in 75190 First Order Star Destroyer from the year prior. The only thing that set it apart was the unique head print.
Taking our bacta minifigure count to four is the next version of Finn. Included with both the Anniversary and New Editions of the updated Visual Dictionary was Finn with his white bacta suit. He features another uniquely printed dual-sided head as well.
The final version of Finn was released in 2019 and was a quite different compared to prior versions. This time he ditched Poe’s jacket and got his own vest which is reflected in his unique torso print. He also came with a different holster print on dark blue pants. He borrowed the hair piece from young Lando Calrissian, and reused the head from the Transport Pod version above. This version is found in 75257 Millennium Falcon and 75272 Sith TIE Fighter.
It will likely be awhile before we see another version as LEGO begins to focus on other portions of the Star Wars universe. Which of these is your favorite variation? Let us know down below.
