Minifig Focus: 75330 Dagobah Jedi Training

While it is an important scene, the encounter on Dagobah between Luke Skywalker and Yoda is one that has limited opportunity to be transformed into a LEGO set. Captured previously in 4502 X-wing Fighter and 75208 Yoda’s Hut, it seemed that an update wouldn’t come around for quite some time.

However, with 2022’s new Diorama series the opportunity presented itself and 75330 Dagobah Jedi Training joined the lineup. Coming with three minifigures – two of which are new – this set is sure to find a home among collectors.

Luke Skywalker

This Jedi Master to-be fought against the Empire in the Galactic Civil War and would become the Rebellion’s hero throughout the Original Trilogy. It was on Dagobah, though, that he started his Jedi training under the tutelage of Master Yoda.

Luke Skywalker has appeared in many different costumes and as a result of his presence throughout the Original Trilogy as well as the Sequel Trilogy, he has become the most numerous LEGO Star Wars minifigure with over 50 unique variants. His Dagobah outfit – which happened to be the same as his Bespin costume minus the jacket – was beige colored with a tan undershirt. This updated version comes with unique leg and torso printing which offers more detail than the prior version. Besides extra wrinkle lines on the pockets, the legs also come with updated hip printing to capture his belt buckle.

R2-D2

The most well-known astromech from the galaxy far, far away is R2-D2, and this spunky droid has made appearances in all nine films of the Skywalker Saga as well as showing up in a variety of other films and animated series.

As the name suggests, R2-D2 was one of the R2-series of astromech droids which were known for their variable programming and distinctive domed head. Although not considered a minifigure by LEGO, this droid was one of the first to get the Mini Steps treatment back in 2020.

Since 1999 the design of the astromech droid has essentially been unchanged. However, R2 has undergone several upgrades over the course of 20+ years. This version marks the next major stage in his evolution with it being the first to feature printing on the back of the body. Similar to the version included in set 75208 this R2 has mud splatters across his dome and body. The backside shows more mud as well as lines to mark his mechanical seams.

Yoda

Yoda was the Grand Master of the Jedi Order and trained multiple generations of Jedi. Coming from a mysterious unnamed species, he lived to be 900 years old before becoming one with the Force on Dagobah.

Yoda has had a surprising number of LEGO variants since his introduction in 2002. To keep track of all the differences, Yoda’s evolution has also been documented in Mini Steps style. This version though is identical to the one included in 75208.

His unique head shape is captured with an olive green mold which been in use since 2013. He has large eyes and his gray hair is printed on the reverse. He comes with short tan legs and a tan torso showing off his robes, belt, and blissl pipes. He comes equipped with a walking stick.

While it may not be for every fan, the Luke and R2-D2 in this set are excellent minifigures and are unlikely to be found again so minifig collectors will have to weigh this in as part of their decision.
