CostCo Super 2-In-1 Packs

Unbelievably, back in 1999, the success of the LEGO Star Wars line wasn’t as an assured hit as it clearly became and for a while retailers in the US were concerned that the initial hysteria over them when they launched earlier in the year would wane as fans swung back to the more tried and tested 3-3/4″ scale action figures.

A year later the US retail giant Target was worried about the number of LEGO Star Wars sets it had stuck in its store houses and decided to produce their own bundles of two sets contained in a thin continuous polymeric material and sell them off at up to 50% off. Enter the co-pack (or contract packaging) series and were made at the request, specification and budget of Target. While the initial price points were rock bottom their value has soared, and today are often more expensive than the combined cost of the single sets.

Since then there have a number of similar concepts – bonus pack, value pack, multipack, etc. LEGO even went down this route and sold bundles like 65771 Episode III Collector’s Set and the “K” series.

And now, through CostCo Wholsesale in the US, we have two new 2-in-1 packs, priced $23.99 plus tax.

Individually the 75206 Jedi and Clone Troopers Battle Pack & 75207 Imperial Patrol Battle Pack and 75197 First Order Specialists Battle Pack & 75198 Tatooine Battle Pack sets would retail at $30 a pair. This neat little twin-set saves you $7.

“Always two there are, no more, no less.”
