Is The LEGO Star Wars Magazine At Risk?

Since taking the LEGO Star Wars Magazine (and a number of other brick-based children’s titles) out of the hands of Egmont Publishing at the start of the year, Immediate Media has maintained the same consistent approach that its parent company – Blue Ocean – has had with the non-English language versions of the magazine.

But that might be set to change because Immediate Media is facing tough times due to a downturn in newsstand sales and a downturn in advertising revenue due to COVID-19.

According to Press Gazette the company is planning to cut around 113 jobs and close 12 magazines

“In order to the protect the long-term future of Immediate we have embarked on a cost-saving project across the business, which unfortunately will include some redundancies and the closure of some brands in our craft and homes portfolio and the phased closure of some of our youth and children’s titles,”

The source article goes on to list seven lifestyle magazine and five children’s magazines – including two LEGO titles and the Star Wars Galaxy comic, which was only launched 18 months ago – as expected to close in a phased fashion over the next few months.

The two LEGO titles – Friends and Hidden Side – only had monthly circulations of around 20,000 copies each and with this year’s go-to iso-activity being LEGO, and the Star Wars franchise being an evergreen license (particularly for LEGO) it’s safe to assume that the LEGO Star Wars Magazine – which had the 61st issue released last week – isn’t going to face the writer’s block for some time to come.

The Holo-Brick Archives has reached out to Immediate Media for further clarification on the future of the LEGO Star Wars Magazine.
