What’s Inside 75307 LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar?

Just like every year, we start our LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar review with a reminder that Advent, meaning “arriving” in Latin, began in the 5th century CE as a Roman practice of penitence and fasting. Over time it became a time given over to preparing and reflecting on the real meaning of Christmas.

It was in nineteenth-century Germany that the tradition of marking the days until Christmas with a small candy or gift began and the earliest Advent calendars started to appear.

Originally deemed the period between Saint Andrew’s Day at the end of November until Christmas Day, the introduction of a calendar formalized Advent, which originally began on the last Sunday of November, formalized the start date as December 1st, which is also the socially acceptable date to put Christmas decorations up.

When it comes to LEGO Star Wars, the Advent calendar subtheme was introduced at San Diego Comic Con in 2011 when LEGO lotteried off 1000 specially packaged and hand-numbered exclusives to promote the upcoming launch of the new subtheme.

Since then LEGO has produced one every year, and 2021 marks the tenth anniversary of the popular subtheme.

Normally a traditional advent calendar would feature Christian depictions (like manger scenes or Saint Nicholas) or winter landscapes, leaving the surprise reveal to be discovered as each door is opened, but in the world of LEGO – where box graphics sells products – the LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar is covered in spoilers (22 out of 24 to be precise) that largely give away the contents.

While the annual LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar isn’t exactly a typical Advent calendar, this year’s is more atypical than normal, because – from year to year – LEGO has produced a mishmash of minifigures and mini builds from the length and breadth of the Star Wars universe, this year they have opted to only source from The Mandalorian live-action TV series.

Opening the front panel not only reveals a particularly pleasing piece of art that shows a snowy landscape and doubles up as both a diorama and a playmat, but exposes the 24 doors that are opened throughout Advent to uncover the entombed gift.

No different from any of the others, this year’s 75307 LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar has 24 (a number that isn’t set to change) small doors; one for each day of December leading up to and including Christmas Eve. Traditionally the appropriately numbered door – starting with number one on December 1st, etc – is opened each day leading up to Christmas to reveal a small LEGO Star Wars gift.
