75307 LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar: Final Thoughts

Some sets take a handful of minutes to build, others need a week of knee-crushing dedication but the yearly LEGO Star Wars Advent calendar is always twenty-four days in the making – if you do it right – and with the joy of the final day’s reveal faded, it’s time to look back at all the novelties that arrived with 75307 LEGO Star Wars Advent calendar.

If you’ve missed out on our daily reveals you can head to the full gallery to check out our thoughts on each of the Advent trinkets, which included eight minifigures/brick-built droids, eight mini-scale vehicles, three weapon racks, two stud launching weapons, two minifigure-scale conveyances and one set of (dud) targets.

What stuck out in this year’s selection of novelties was the inspirational pairs – and triads – of vehicles, minifigures and minibuilds. Fans could re-enact the scene when the New Republic X-wings interdicted the Razor Crest near Maldo Kreis, combine the Tusken Raider minifigure, weapon rack and balista in an epic snowball battle against the Stormtrooper minifigure and E-web heavy blaster, while the Snowball Courier droid scurries around making sure both sides have enough projectiles. Or perhaps it’s the thought of a Scout Trooper minifigure on a speeder bike chasing down festive The Mandalorian minifigure and The Child in his hoverpram as they rush to get to the party that IG-11 is hosting that is most appealing?

After ten years of these, you’d think that LEGO would be resting on their laurels (which, given the time of year, are probably holly) and churning out variations of acceptable minifigures, mini-scale ships, and mini models until the Advent calendar subtheme is ground down to mundanity.

Perhaps the looming risk of this led to the decision to create one focused on The Mandalorian, rather than include novelties from the full Star Wars gamut. Whatever the motivation, it gave us what is arguably the best LEGO Star Wars Advent calendar since we got to open door one in 2011.
