With a new season comes a fresh batch of rumors, and now that the focus of the LEGO Star Wars collecting community has moved on from speculating about the Black Friday release of a UCS AT-AT, they’re focusing on what’s expected in 2022.
The first rumor – which was connected to some facts for a change – was that the 150th BrickHeadz set, the focus of a LEGO Ideas poll in November 2020, will be Ahsoka Tano. The news leaked via Instagram days after the 149th BrickHeadz set – 40492 La Catrina – emerged when lego_club_news shared that the Star Wars character selected to mark BrickHeadz century and a half mark would be the popular Star Wars character who re-appeared in the second season of The Mandalorian and will be the focus of a titular TV series expected in 2022.
It is unknown when this is expected, and with the apparent random release schedule that BrickHeadz enjoys it could be anytime in the next six months. That said, with the 149th BrickHeadz already on shelves any delay to this commemorative model would prevent the release of any subsequent sets so good money is on the BrickHeadz #150 becoming available in the next few months.
The second prediction for the Winter wave came from Promobricks.de who shared the news that the return of the battle pack would come in the form of 75320 Hoth Battle Pack.
They confidently announced that this would supplement the rumored 75312 UCS AT-AT, and will include four minifigures three Hoth Stormtroopers, and a Biker Scout). It would be safe to assume that an e-web cannon and a white speeder bike – similar to the one in 4483 AT-AT and 75288 AT-AT – will come with this army builder set.
It’s not going to come as a surprise to most LEGO Star Wars fans and collectors that The Mandalorian and The Book Of Boba Fett are believed to be getting a heavy focus in the Winter wave. One tipster is pushing the news that The Razor Crest will get added to the Microfighters subtheme, and the throne (similar to the one imagined by Blocks Magazine in their August issue) seen at the end of the final episode in the last season of The Mandalorian will be amongst the December (North America) and January (rest of the world) releases. Whether this will include sw1158 Boba Fett (which came with 75312 Boba Fett’s Starship) or an unrevealed costume is something we’ll have to wait to find out.
Five other sets – including a new Adult Collector model that is said to be a detailed AT-ST – are being bandied around too. Aside from the Imperial Scout Walker (which is said to be a Hoth variant and will make a perfect companion for the conjectured 75312 UCS AT-AT) there isn’t anything firm to add to the other four.
Also predicted for 2022 are three new helmets that Promobricks.de is declaring to be an AT-AT Driver (75237), The Mandalorian (78328) and X-wing Pilot (75239). If the rumors are true you shouldn’t expect a price rise from the original three bucketheadz that came out in 2019, and if LEGO follows their release pattern these should be expanding the Adult Collector subtheme in next year’s Spring wave, typically released at the end of April (just in time for May The 4th Be With You).
Another rumor that is circulating concerns the next entry into the Sculptures subtheme, the collection of sets that focus on medium-scale droid builds. Generally speaking, these come out in May as the big-ticket May 4th item or in October during movie years (which is Rogue Squadron and it doesn’t arrive in theaters until Christmas 2023) so the likelihood of this being a Spring release is high. What it is is anyone’s guess but there’s no doubt that Original Trilogy fans are sure to be hoping for a GNK or MSE droid.
Perhaps the most interesting tidbit of information concerns the not-next-but-next-next Ultimate Collector Series set, with a certain floating, moccasin-shaped surface conveyance that gets frequently mocked for its regular reappearance as a LEGO set being put forward as an upcoming candidate.
