There’s no arguing that the latest LEGO Star Wars rumors are fun to read and discuss – and there are good psychological reasons for that – and they certainly draw in the traffic, but sometimes there are just too many to be taken seriously.
UPDATE: all of these rumored sets posted on #legoleaks2022 – as well as the Force ghost piece, large landspeeder windshield, and rancor vs scorponek set – have been revealed as a hoax, perpetrated by legohio.
With a slew of new sets being predicted for 2022 – many of which have some corroborating evidence to suggest they are real – there has been a recent avalanche of social media posts that have come in from left field, leaving those who follow such news a bit perplexed.
Some of the reported rumors – such as 75342 Republic Fighter Tank and 75341 Luke Skywalker’s X-34 Landspeeder – have been circulating for months and recent clues have made them more realistic, while other rumors are just plain outlandish.
The first rumor on the LEGO Star Wars calendar, according to #legoleaks2022, comes from the one-week-old codyleaks, who is adamant that a Commander Cody polybag is on the horizon for May The 4th Be With You.
The recent release of the teaser trailer for the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi live-action TV series on Disney+ (debuting on May 25th) has prompted all kinds of ideas to be suggested. Some, like 40547 BrickHeadz Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader have the ring of truth to them, while others are fantastical.
One such leak, posted by leaker628, three-day old Instagram account, purports to have a list of Obi-Wan Kenobi sets.
After running the image through Google Lens to get a translation from Spanish to English, it’s not hard to see that most of these set ideas have been pulled from the teaser trailer. Curiously though, the names Nari Kython, Dyo, Aquill Vance and Verto Baron (or Baron Verto for that matter) have no existing connection (outside of rumor threads on Reddit) to Star Wars. They could be new – and unannounced characters – or they could be made up.
There’s also the issue of two sets both having a Second Sister minifigure. This is atypical of LEGO, who normally packs minifigures of popular characters in different sets like they did with the Knights of Ren, who were spread between 75272 Sith TIE Fighter, 75273 Poe Dameron’s X-Wing Fighter and 75284 Knights of Ren Transport Ship in the Winter wave of 2020.
Further out in the year we have two predictions for the big-ticket set in the fourth quarter of 2022. Speculation that a new Master Builder Series set will be released, based on the UCS/MBS pattern, supports a tie-in with Attack of the Clones, which celebrates its 20th birthday this year.
However, legohio – the same Instagrammer who shared images of the alleged Force ghost piece, large landspeeder windshield, and rancor vs scorponek set – claims that it is going to be the hidden military base of the Rebel Alliance located on Yavin IV.
The set, according to the post’s description, will be packed with features.
NEW RUMOR!!!: MBS Yavin IV Rebel Base releasing late summer 2022 for $529.99 USD. [Edit: 75331 (sorry, typo)] Seature “half” of the temple base, with a displayable frontside and a doll-house style backside. The set is modular to allow easier access to rooms. The bottom module is a hangar with ladders, maintenance cart, and other accessories. It looks like most play-scale rebel ships should fit in the hangar. The midi-scale Millennium Falcon included in the set takes up less than half of the hangar space. The middle module includes briefing and control rooms. The top module includes a ceremony room, which is only large enough to feature the stage (stairs). The display side of the temple features a watch-tower and foliage. There are pins on the backside that allow two sets to be combined into a full temple base. I do not have a list of included minifigures, but expect a similar mix of standard and new figures as has been included in recent MBS sets. I do not have dimensions, but expect a similar overall volume to the MBS-style Death Star (75159)
Counter to this, codyleaks is claiming that the big set of the Summer wave is actually going to be a new UCS Super Star Destroyer and not an addition to the Master Builder Series subtheme as most fans expect.
Including all the 12 released, two officially announced and 28 rumored sets – if they’re true – it’s looking like at least 41 sets will be hitting toy store shelves this year. This isn’t a huge number by any means, and there have been years with much larger releases with 2018, having two movie-related waves, holding the record with 55 construction sets.
It’s getting harder and harder to sort the real news from the fake. We’re not saying that any of these are fake, but we are putting them in the “too good to be true” box. If they turn out to be real we’ll unpack these rumors later, but we don’t expect to.
